Tired of birth control and bandaid solutions?

  • You’ve been told “everything looks normal” while struggling with real symptoms.

  • You want root cause answers, not just another prescription.

  • You feel confused about terms like Natural Family Planning, Fertility Awareness, Period Tracking – and unsure where to begin.

You’re not broken. Your body was designed with wisdom. You just need the clarity and tools to care for it.

Start Your Chart™ helps you find the right fertility awareness-based method – and the right support – so you can finally move forward with confidence.

No pressure. No one-size-fits-all answers. Just clear information, support, and options.

Managing Your Fertility was created to bridge the gap between medical research and real life.

I hold a Master’s degree in Health Communication, a joint program between public health and journalism, where I was trained to translate complex health research into clear, ethical, and accessible information. My professional work focuses on women’s health communication, drawing from peer-reviewed research, evidence-based medicine, and medical professionals in the fertility and reproductive health space.

But this work isn’t just academic – it’s lived.

I’ve been married for nine years and have used fertility awareness-based methods throughout my entire marriage, including through miscarriage, postpartum seasons, breastfeeding, hormonal imbalances, and cycle challenges. I understand both the science and the emotional reality of navigating reproductive health as a woman.

This combination of professional training and personal experience allows me to support women with clarity, compassion, and credibility.

What these terms really mean

Understanding your body starts with understanding the language around it.

Cycle Awareness
Your cycle is more than your period—it’s a vital sign of health. By observing changes throughout your entire cycle (not just menstruation), you can spot early signs of hormonal imbalance, stress, or inflammation. It’s your body’s built-in communication system.

Fertility Awareness
Fertility awareness takes cycle awareness one step further by using specific, evidence-based methods to identify patterns in your body’s signs of fertility and health. This knowledge can be used to support your overall well-being and, when desired, to help achieve or avoid pregnancy naturally.

Period Tracking
Tracking only your period gives you limited information—it’s one piece of the puzzle, but not the whole story. True awareness means observing your entire cycle, not just when you bleed.

Natural Family Planning (NFP)
NFP combines fertility awareness with prayerful discernment about family life. It’s about living in harmony with your body, your faith, and your season of life—so decisions about your family are made with peace and confidence.

Curious how fertility awareness works?

Getting started with fertility awareness is straightforward, but it’s crucial to have the right guidance to ensure you’re on the right track. While it’s possible to chart on your own, working with a certified fertility awareness instructor is highly recommended, especially if you’re looking to detect hormonal imbalances or have questions about your cycle.

A certified instructor can help you interpret your charts, provide insight into your unique cycle, and eliminate the guesswork that can come with learning this on your own. They can also help you choose the method that fits your life and health goals. Start Your Chart™ provides the foundational knowledge and tools to help you get started, but working with an instructor will give you the support you need to confidently move forward.

There are three primary categories of fertility awareness methods, each offering a unique approach to tracking your cycle. Here’s a quick overview of each category, along with examples of popular methods:

  1. Sympto-Thermal Methods
These methods combine multiple fertility signs, such as basal body temperature (BBT), cervical mucus, and sometimes cervical position. They provide a comprehensive approach to charting your cycle.

    • Example: Couple to Couple League teaches this method, which is highly effective when used with consistency and accuracy.
  2. Sympto-Hormonal Methods
These methods use a combination of fertility signs like cervical mucus and basal body temperature, but also incorporate hormonal readings, often using a fertility monitor or an app to track hormones in real time.

    • Example: Marquette Model uses a clear, structured approach with hormonal monitoring to help confirm ovulation and fertility windows.
  3. Cervical Fluid (Mucus) Only Methods
These methods focus on tracking cervical mucus to identify your fertile window. They provide a more streamlined approach, focusing on the primary fertility sign—cervical mucus.

    • Example: Creighton Model is a mucus-only method with a clear, structured approach that is popular for both family planning and addressing fertility health concerns.

These are just a few examples, and there are other organizations and methods that fall under each category, each offering a variety of learning options to suit your personal needs and preferences. Whether you’re looking for in-person instruction, online courses, or apps to guide you, there’s a method that will fit your lifestyle and goals.

However, not all instructors or organizations offering these methods are equally qualified. It’s important to ensure that you work with a certified instructor—someone who has been properly trained by a recognized fertility awareness organization. Unfortunately, there are individuals and groups that claim to offer fertility awareness education but aren’t adequately trained or certified within the professional fertility awareness community. This can leave you without the support you need to understand your body and address any fertility concerns.

That’s where I come in. In Start Your Chart™, I walk you through all the certified methods, making sure you only learn from instructors and organizations recognized as legitimate in the field. I do the research for you, so you won’t have to worry about whether what’s listed in my course is valid or not. I take the stress out of the process, helping you feel confident that you’re receiving the best possible guidance and support from certified professionals.

Once you’ve selected the method that works for you, I’ll help you find the perfect certified instructor, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring you’re on the right track from the very start.

Yes! Fertility awareness can be just as effective as birth control—when practiced with the right knowledge and guidance. Perfect use of fertility awareness methods can result in effectiveness rates up to 99%. However, it’s important to note that fertility awareness is not just about avoiding pregnancy. It’s about understanding your body, monitoring your health, and empowering yourself with knowledge.

That said, while you can learn fertility awareness on your own, working with a certified instructor will help you avoid mistakes and increase effectiveness. A certified instructor will ensure that you’re charting accurately, interpreting your cycle signs correctly, and help you detect any hormonal imbalances early on. Start Your Chart™ is designed to provide you with the knowledge and tools to make an informed decision about which method works best for you, and I’ll also guide you in selecting an instructor to help you through the process with confidence.

Is fertility awareness the same as birth control?
Fertility awareness is not birth control. It’s a natural method of understanding and tracking your cycle, not a form of contraception. For Catholics, it’s essential to understand that fertility awareness is not only a legitimate form of family planning but is also fully aligned with Church teachings, which affirm its moral permissibility. This method respects the natural cycles of your body, unlike artificial birth control, which interferes with those cycles.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Church’s stance, fertility awareness is still a powerful tool for tracking your health and making informed decisions about family planning. If you’d like more information on how fertility awareness fits into Catholic teachings, I explore this in more detail in my blog and podcast episodes, which you can check out for further insights.

Whole-person care. Root cause healing. True freedom.

Many women are navigating reproductive health without ever being taught how their bodies actually work.

They’re told:

  • Their symptoms are “normal” – without explanation

  • There’s only one solution – without context

  • To trust the process – without informed consent

And the result is frustration, confusion, and feeling disconnected from their bodies.

At Managing Your Fertility, I help women understand what’s happening in their bodies, why certain symptoms occur, and what options actually exist – so they’re no longer left guessing or feeling powerless.

This means you deserve:

  • Clear explanations instead of vague reassurances

  • Evidence-based information instead of fear-based messaging

I don’t tell women what to choose.

I help them understand:

  • How their cycles and hormones work

  • What different fertility and reproductive health options do (and don’t do)

  • How to ask better questions and advocate for themselves

Knowledge doesn’t take away freedom — it restores it.

Here, you’ll find stories, science, and support that remind you: you’re not alone.
