Is it okay to use lubricant in sex? Are there any moral issues with using it?
You can absolutely use lubricant in sex. There are no moral issues in using lubricant.
Lubricant can greatly help eliminate pain and discomfort in sex for women. A lubricant helps with dryness or friction that can be created during penetration, so that it’s enjoyable for both spouses. Some women naturally lubricate and don’t find they need lubricant (that is awesome!). Others find that lubricant really helps with discomfort and minimizes pain, so sex can be enjoyable and you aren’t distracted or trying to manage the discomfort (and miss out on an orgasm in the process!).
Some lubricants contain spermicides and other nasty chemicals that are not safe to use for your health! Although a lot of research focuses on conception, it’s important to remember that you shouldn’t be putting chemicals into your body – whether you’re making a baby or not!
Important research about chemicals you need to know:
“While most lubricants don’t contain spermicides anymore, she says many contain ingredients like petroleum, propylene glycol, glycerin, parabens, silicone, and Nonoxynol-9 (sometimes abbreviated as N-9). All of these ingredients can affect sperm motility — the ability of sperm to move properly through a woman’s reproductive tract.” (Healthline)
“There are certain ingredients 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙪𝙗𝙚: Glycerine, flavoring, any kind of sugar, petroleum jelly, preservatives like parabens, propylene glycol, benzocaine (a “numbing” ingredient in some lubes), and antibacterial ingredients like chlorhexidine gluconate are all potentially irritating or toxic ingredients.” (Extend Fertility)
“The FDA has three groups of lubricants, and only one is considered “fertility-friendly.” Products get this label if extensive testing shows no negative impact to sperm, eggs, and fertilization. (RO Company)
